Off-Grid Radios & Mesh

Meshtastic and MeshCore mesh radios, GMRS, FRS and ham handhelds, and long-range walkie talkies for staying in touch without cell service.

When the cell network goes down, a radio is the only thing that still carries a message. This section covers the two kinds that matter for most people: LoRa mesh radios (Meshtastic and MeshCore) that pass short text messages node to node with no license, and voice radios (GMRS, FRS and ham) for talking across a neighborhood or a county. We run these radios ourselves in North Carolina, and the guides say what each one is good for, what it isn't, and which boards and handhelds Amazon currently sells.
