About Prepped Gear
Prepped Gear publishes buying guides and checklists for emergency and off-grid gear: mesh radios, GMRS and ham handhelds, go bags, lanterns, fire starters and the supplies that get a household through a hurricane, an ice storm or a long power outage.
The site is written from North Carolina, where the emergencies are mostly weather. We keep the advice practical. You will not find bunker plans or doomsday talk here, just the gear that works when the power and the cell network are down.
Who's Behind Prepped Gear
Prepped Gear is written by a small team that runs the gear it writes about. We run Meshtastic and MeshCore nodes and keep the kits described on this site in our own vehicles and closets. Where a guide is based on hands-on use, it says so. Where it is based on the maker's specifications and the product listing, it says that too.
How We Pick Products
Every product is checked against its live Amazon listing before it goes in a guide: who sells it, whether it is in stock, and what the listing actually says about it. We pull specs from the manufacturer where we can. We do not quote star ratings or review counts, we do not take free units or paid placements, and we say so when a listing is a third-party reseller. The full policy is on our Editorial Standards page.
What We Cover
Off-grid communication (LoRa mesh, GMRS, FRS, ham), go bags and car kits, lighting and small power, fire and shelter, and storm and outage checklists. For whole-house generators, heaters and the rest of the garage, our sister site Garage Shop Lawn covers that ground.
